Job Responsibilities 

  • Acquire and understand the project goals, specific piping documentation and piping systems project requirements
  • Contribute to defining piping scopes of work for designs at different stages of engineering (DBM, FEED, DE) with a piping list of activities and deliverables in accordance with a project defined scope
  • Review documents, give approval or rejection with comments through the company document control systems (Coreworx)
  • Set up and ensure project and engineering quality requirements are met during design and fabrication of piping systems
  • Ensure critical discipline information from the company is received by EPC and vice versa 
  • Hold responsibility for OSBU Specifications, for its review, update and revision as required
  • Provide design premises with all necessary data, general and specific piping design guidelines
  • Coordinate with the OS Projects Engineering Manager the approval of RFI’s, TDR’s and TBE’s considering safety, operability, maintainability, technical standards and cost efficiency 
  • Coordinate the evaluation of the design changes to the original scope of work and verify the implementation following engineering procedures
  • Track all project interface information within the piping discipline related to existing facilities 
  • Communicate with Sunrise Operations/maintenance to ensure operational input to piping systems equipment is within modules in fabrication
  • Review and give technical advice during the purchase process including MRQ’s, MRP’s, TBE’s and PO’s from the companies commercial and or EPC’s for piping material companies
  • Check and sign produced documents (internal or subcontracted) as per Engineering Manager’s directions
  • Attend internal review and squad check activities, inter-discipline meetings including regulatory, HazOp sessions and 3D model reviews when required
  • Provide technical support to project groups in any piping technical issue
  • Work with EPC’s and provide guidance for the best and most appropriate design solutions for OS Projects within the best technical and economical approach
  • Support the project controls team on project schedules and project cost summaries
  • Provide technical reviews and advice to the Engineering Manager for approval of piping design packages and requirements during different engineering stages
  • Maintain and follow up on-going list of piping engineering issues 
  • Attend project site visits as per project requirements
  • Provide advice to the Engineering Manager in regard to any piping services related variation costs that may be claimed by EPC / Contractor
  • Sets up and attend meetings to resolve specific piping engineering issues
  • Perform stress calculations, sizing and evaluation of piping systems and related equipment
  • Review and issue comments for all piping deliverables including plot plans, layouts, 3D models, isometrics, etc. from EPCs
  • Ensure piping design criteria, specifications, line lists, piping specialty items data sheets, process flow sheets, process flow diagrams (PFD's), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID's), etc. are complete under company specifications from EPC’s and other third parties
  • Ensure that engineering deliverables (e.g. drawings, specifications, analysis) comply with all applicable regulations, standards, codes, etc.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, documents, schematics and computer-generated reports
  • Ensure project designs are fit for purpose, on time and on budget as per the project scope and expectations
Candidate Qualifications
  • Piping or Mechanical Engineer, APEGA registered (Province of Alberta) – P. Eng. designation and willingness to stamp drawings
  • Minimum 15 years' of experience in engineering areas including layouts, materials and stress analysis of the Oil and Gas industry (upstream/downstream)
  • Considerable experience in all engineering stages (Concept/DBM, FEED and Detailed Design)
  • Knowledgeable in Piping & Pipelines O&G Industry Standards and Practices, codes and regulatory requirements (ASME, CSA, NACE, ABSA, etc.)
  • Experience on SAGD facilities and production facilities
  • Minimum 10 years of experience using the piping stress analysis software Caesar II
  • Proactive and team player working with peers and EPC personnel
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to deal effectively within multiple projects in development
  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills 
  • Experience on CoGen and/or downstream processes is an asset
  • Field experience is an asset
  • Previous experience working with EPC’s and also with Operators is an asset
