Job Responsibilities 
  • Acquire and understand the project goals, specific mechanical documentation and mechanical project requirements
  • Set up requirements for mechanical discipline deliverables and its acceptance criteria from the EPC Contractor
  • Support and adhere to the clients Operational Integrity Management System elements
  • Contribute to defining mechanical scopes of work for designs at different stages of engineering (Scoping, DBM, FEED, DE) with Mechanical list of activities and deliverables in accordance with project defined scope
  • Provide document reviews, approval or rejection with comments as required through the clients Doc Control Systems
  • Work with Quality Group to develop engineering quality requirements for design, fabrication, and inspection of Mechanical Equipment and Skid Packages
  • Follow up with EPC counterpart and other engineering disciplines on vendor supplied Equipment Skid Packages
  • Review and update OSBU & Specifications as required by OS Projects Engineering Manager
  • Provide design premises with all necessary data, general and specific mechanical design guidelines
  • Answers RFI’s and coordinate approval with OS Projects Engineering Manager for Mechanical discipline from Engineering and Construction Contractors
  • Ensure communication and interface with other engineering disciplines for interdisciplinary activities within the company 
  • Coordinate the evaluation of the design changes to the original scope of work and verify the implementation of those approved following engineering procedures
  • Keep communication with Operations/Maintenance to ensure operational input to mechanical equipment and packages in purchase
  • Provide review and advise during the purchase process including (MRQ’s), MRP’s, TBE’s and PO’s from the clients Commercial and/or EPC’s for mechanical equipment
  • Verify and sign documents (internal or subcontracted) like design and technical reports, technical specifications, drawings, etc. as per the clients OS Projects Engineering Manager directions
  • Attends internal reviews and squad check activities, inter-discipline check meetings including regulatory, risk assessments, HazOp sessions, class of facility, value improvement practices and 3D Model Reviews when required
  • Provide technical support to Project groups in matters related to technical integrity issues
  • Compile mechanical engineering deliverable to support the Project Stage Gating review
  • Work with EPC’s and provide guidance for the best and most appropriate design solutions for OS Projects within the best technical and economical approach
  • Strive to accomplish and support project goals by improving quality of designs and following internal design standards
  • Support and advise Engineering Manager to approve mechanical design packages and requirements during different engineering stages
  • Attend project site visits as per projects requirements
  • Provide advice to the Engineering Manager in regard to any mechanical services related variation costs that may be claimed by EPC / Contractor
  • Attend and set up meetings to resolve specific mechanical engineering issues as required 
  • Advise the Project group and the Engineering Manager on long lead material that may affect progress of the works from early stages of the projects
  • ?Update and/or prepare Mechanical engineering design documents as-built as necessary to update any backlog as per OS Project Engineering Manager
  • Report to the Projects Engineering Manager
Candidate Qualifications
  • Mechanical Engineer, APEGA registered (Province of Alberta) – P. Eng. designation and willingness to stamp drawings
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in design engineering area of the Oil and Gas industry (upstream/downstream)
  • Experience in all engineering stages (DBM, FEED and Detailed Design)
  • Knowledgeable in Mechanical O&G Industry Standards and Practices, codes and regulatory requirements
  • Understanding of Continuous improvement techniques and models
  • Familiar with the ABSA requirements for pressure equipment design and registration
  • Experience on SAGD facilities and production facilities
  • Knowledgeable in HVAC and Building Systems
  • Must be able to work in a high performance team environment with proactive team player capabilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to deal effectively within multiple projects in development
  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills
  • Understanding the project development and execution process is an asset
  • Experience on CoGen and/or downstream processes is an asset
  • Previous experience working with EPC’s and also with Operators is an asset
