Our client is looking for an individual to complete a nine month contract in Sarnia, ON as a Health and Safety Nurse. A successful candidate would provide occupational health services typically at multiple sites or operations, and provides corporate wide or global nursing support through appropriate networks and committees. Job Responsibilities 
  • Provide and document services as well as acting as a subject matter expert (SME) to other health professionals in the provision and documentation of services relating to routine, non-routine, and complex Occupational Health care of employees and others as determined by local site management within the professional scope and standards of license
  • Develop regional and/or global policies and procedures in consultation with other Occupational Health professionals
  • Determine and communicate Fitness For Work and trains others in the provision of this service including the following: case management of injury/illness, routine and non-routine travel preparation, occupational evaluations, may be providing regional or global support 
  • Perform, analyze, and evaluates Health Screening data to identify possible workplace exposures as required by global Medical and Occupational Health (MOH) and applicable local laws and regulations
  • Make recommendations to management based on individual results
  • Develop programs to lessen workplace exposures in collaboration with other Health Professionals 
  • Develop training programs for external medical service providers to ensure services provided are delivered in accordance with company guidelines
  • Assists in the development of guidelines and procedures relating to Alcohol and Drug Use (ADU) testing
  • Actively participates in MOH and Safety, Security, Health, and Environment (SSHE) committees, projects and initiatives. May involve some lead responsibilities at a global level
  • Develops processes to improve effectiveness of resource utilization in MOH globally

Candidate Qualifications

  • Nursing degree, Advanced Nursing degree, Physician Assistant or equivalent
  • Post-Masters Nurse Practitioner (NP) Diploma - Specializing in the Adult category
  • Current, or eligible for, unrestricted registration with provincial or territorial nursing licensing organization for primary work location
  • At least three to five years of related work experience
  • Recognized expertise in applied clinical health risk assessment and fitness for work determination
  • In depth knowledge of adult acute and chronic illness
  • Strong clinical, interpersonal, analytical and planning skills
  • Occupational health experience desirable
  • Knowledge of provincial OH&S legislation 
  • Familiarity with spirometry and audiometry
  • Advanced computer literacy and strong program management skills
  • Detailed knowledge of occupational medicine, emergency medical response, toxicology, legal issues relevant to occupational health care.
  • Candidates should be licensed and practicing in Ontario as a Nurse Practitioner - occupational health experience is an asset. Assignment is for at least 18 months
