Job Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service and respond to manager and employee payroll and benefits inquiries
  • Process payroll for employees in accordance with established conditions, agreements, procedures and policies
  • Analyze, verify and balance payrolls
  • Process off-cycle payments using manual cheques
  • Maintain and reconcile attendance records
  • Maintain and update employee data in an accurate and timely manner while still ensuring that data integrity and consistency is improved
  • Contribute to both internal and external audit functions
  • Complete records of employment (ROE)
  • Year-end processing
  • Collaborate with internal teams to improve payroll processes as well as communicating, documenting and implementing changes
  • Other duties and special projects as needed

Candidate Qualifications

  • Completion of the Canadian Payroll Association Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) certification
  • At least two years of experience with union and non-union payroll doing complex full cycle payroll and working with large electronic payroll systems of more than 500 employees
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of processes, contractual agreements, benefit plans, payroll processes and business math
  • Experience using the Banner payroll system is preferred
  • Intermediate MS Word and Excel skills
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and confidentiality
  • Strong ability to be flexible and work well under the pressure of deadlines and last minute changes
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to detect errors and their source, and take corrective actions as required
  • Ability to interpret complex language of government regulations for compliance and communication to others
  • Ability to meet both department and individual deadlines with little supervision as well as setting and adjusting priorities frequently despite numerous interruptions
  • Excellent customer service skills combined with excellent oral and written communication as well as strong interpersonal and organizational skills
