Our client is looking for an individual to complete a six month to one year contract at their Calgary location. Reporting to the Manager, Electrical and Controls, and the purpose of the Electrical Engineer is to complete and advance the designs of electrical systems used with compression and process systems. Job Responsibilities 
  • Design industrial plant electrical systems in the oil and gas industry including power, lighting, fire alarm, and communications
  • Prepare electrical construction drawings and specifications in conjunction with our in-house mechanical, architectural, and civil/structural design teams
  • Consult with other departments, suppliers and contractors to clarify specifications and supply
  • Load list and electrical equipment sizing
  • Preparing LV & MV Single Line Diagrams with strong knowledge of relay & metering systems
  • Providing Electrical BOMs and major equipment costs for capital cost estimates
  • Arc Flash hazard analyses coordination of protective devices
  • Review interconnection agreements with utilities and power purchase agreements
  • Develop motor protection and control schematics/wiring diagrams

Candidate Qualifications
  • Registration as a professional engineer with a minimum of 10 years of experience
  • Sound project management and client interaction skills
  • Good understanding of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria in Alberta and BC
  • Knowledge of power distribution, essential power systems including generators and UPS, substations, transformers, metering, primary and secondary switchgear, motor control and motor control centers.
  • Knowledge of using electrical engineering application software like ETAP or SKM to study relay coordination, load flow, short circuit, harmonic and motor starting analysis
  • Knowledge of substation grounding study and providing grounding grid layout
  • Experience in control systems, cabling, reading P&ID’s, and instrumentation is a definite asset
