Are you an individual with strong technical knowledge and experience in environmental operations support? Do you have a demonstrated ability to accomplish results under pressure while remaining flexible to rapidly changing conditions and priorities? Our client is looking for an individual to fill an eight month contract position as a Senior Field Environmental Coordinator. This individual would play a key role in the overall coordination and implementation of environmental programs, environmental compliance and proactive environmental initiatives that support oil sand's operation activities.  Job Responsibilities 
  • Ensure compliance with all company and environmental regulatory requirements for operations
  • Development, implementation and management of environmental procedures and plans
  • Coordination of environmental management best practices across oil sand operations and activities
  • Coordination and direction of contract service providers conducting environmental monitoring or assessments to ensure safe, quality and cost-effective delivery of services
  • Management of scope of work and budgets associated with environmental programs
  • Support to operations on environmental issues and programs, including waste management, erosion control, vegetation management, water withdrawal or discharge, regulatory inspections, monitoring, spill clean-up, emergency response etc.
  • Assisting operations in reporting and managing environmental incidents such as spills and releases
  • Incident investigation, corrective action support and verification of environmental and regulatory contraventions
  • Work closely with the Regulatory and Environment, and Sustainable Development teams to ensure consistent program implementation, regulatory interaction and planning
  • Develop programs designed to improve environmental performance of Oil Sand's Operations
  • Liaise with key regulatory agencies on environmental programs, approvals and permit requirements
  • Analysis environmental data to identify trends and issues to help implement enhancements to environmental programs in collaboration with the Calgary based Environmental Operation team members
  • Support execution of permits and licenses for construction
Candidate Qualifications
  • University degree in environmental science or related discipline
  • Strong familiarity with environmental requirements of the oil industry
  • Five to ten years direct environmental operations experience
  • An understanding of oil sands or conventional oil and gas production operations
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Technical Expertise – Knowledgeable and experience with the fundamentals of environmental management and compliance and environmental incident response
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to accomplish results under pressure while remaining flexible to rapidly changing conditions and priorities
  • Must be proficient in written and verbal communication
  • Formal training and experience in proactive environmental performance initiatives, spill and environmental incident response and incident investigation  
  • Must be a strong team player with an ability to carry out assignments with minimum guidance
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to develop working relationships
