Our client is seeking an experienced Operations Manager, Engineering Services to join their team in Edmonton on a permanent basis. This position will be responsible for managing the Engineering Services operations across the country along with managing the laboratory operations. Job Responsibilities
  • Prepare business plans to achieve annual budgets of engineering services accordingly
  • Manage a team of technical staff, providing mentorship and technical training, completing thorough performance reviews and supporting them to grow and develop 
  • Ensure systems and processes are in place to drive safety and environmental performance by each workgroup
  • Clearly communicate goals around operating performance and ensure they are understood
  • Ensure that training is being conducted in alignment with the company and customer’s best practices including auditing of records and informal participation in employee qualification process
  • Support team with identifying performance problems with employees and help establish effective corrective actions
  • Prepare a variety of projects proposals, quotations, and cost estimations
  • Monitor project cost to contain within the budget allocation
  • Liaise with business unit on project development and quality deliverables
  • Prepare supportive documents and arrange ‘Safe Work Permits’ to execute projects
  • Procure materials and assets to execute projects and manage material inventory
  • Manage maintenance of test equipment for functionality
  • Responsible for engineering services and base laboratory performance 
  • Work with sales team to support and push sales team to increase the sales volume for engineering services
  • Minimize costs without comprising sales and service delivery and ensure competitive pricing in line with business guidelines
  • Know who the key customers’ contacts are in an organization from top to bottom and have regular contact with key customer personnel including regular face-to-face interaction
  • Participate in regular management meetings and provide support and input to peers on the management team
  • Seek input and collaboration on difficult issues and problems
  • Work closely with the HR and safety groups including recruiting, hiring and disciplinary issues
  • Help conduct safety intensive and other key safety training

Candidate Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in Materials or Metallurgical engineering from a recognized University (or equivalency to Canadian University)
  • P.Eng., registered with APEGA
  • Eight to fifteen years of previous working experience in an industrial environment 
  • Over two years of previous supervisory experience
  • Must be registered as a Professional Engineer within the province of Alberta
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals effectively
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability
  • Proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment
  • Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders throughout the procurement process
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail
  • Works well under pressure
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time
  • Travel may be required
