Our client is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Manager that is responsible for leading a team of engineers to design new or redesign existing components for industrial and agricultural products. Job Responsibilities 

  • Act as project manager on mechanical engineering projects
  • Plan and prioritize work for the engineering team
  • Ensure that designs are safe, efficient, effective, and able to be manufactured by working with the production team
  • Supervise the activities of engineering team
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g. Shop Floor, Applications, Purchasing, IT, etc.) to ensure project success
  • Oversee the actual production and status of work, ensuring that a constant flow of work is maintained and quality standards are upheld
  • Instruct staff on job duties, procedures and best practices
  • Motivate employees to perform as a results-oriented team by exhibiting a helpful and positive, goal oriented attitude while working alongside fellow team members.
  • Maintain a positive, proactive work environment through recognition and regular feedback
  • Carry out regularly-scheduled performance reviews with staff
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Recommend improvements to current design of products
  • Creation, control and maintenance of release packages and design history files
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of parts and user manuals
  • Produce details of specifications and outline designs
  • Recommend modifications following prototype test results
  • Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality
  • Instruct staff in safety procedures and company policy
  • Train staff in any changes to company policies or job requirements
  • Recommend and take part in personnel decisions such as hiring and succession planning
  • Work with the VP Engineering and clients to understand the needs and requirements for a new product, or for refinements to existing products
  • Ensure compliance with company standards for cost control, waste reduction, product quality, and safety standards
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of a Bill of Materials for products
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards and legislation
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of new technologies, methods, tools and systems

Candidate Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Five or more years of relevant work experience, including supervisory experience
  • Skilled in use of design software, including Inventor and AutoCad Mechanical
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • P.Eng designation preferred
  • Strong written and verbal skills to communicate with all levels of the organization and its executive team
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • High level of organizational and time management skills
  • Must have, or be willing to obtain supervisory training
