The Payroll and Human Resources Specialist is responsible for providing executives, managers and employees a seamless delivery of a full range of services to support the business. Job Responsibilities
  • Connect employees, Managers, Performance and Compensation committee and work with them to prioritize values, training and development, and people and culture initiatives 
  • Drive a Coaching program for Leadership Team with talent assessment, workforce and succession planning, risk assessment and development plans and execution
  • Contribute directly to the development of the Business Unit’s Leadership Team by coaching them to excel in their people management responsibilities
  • Reinforce the development of a coaching culture as a way of inspiring our people
  • Manage employee communication and feedback through such avenues as company meetings, suggestion programs, employee satisfaction surveys, newsletters, employee focus groups, one-on-one meetings, and Intranet use
  • Develop and utilize best practices for onboarding and offboarding including implementation of new automation tools
  • Support initiatives to obtain top employer status 
  • Enter all new hires, terminations, employee changes, and deductions in the payroll system 
  • Identify and resolve arising issues from review and processing of payroll 
  • Prepare and enter all payroll related journal entries including salary allocations
  • Manage all T4 reporting requirements
  • Maintain detailed records of payroll functions for audit purposes
  • Assist employees in payroll related questions
  • Support in compensation reviews and salary surveys
  • Forecast and budgeting for salary on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Prepare annual compensation statements and annual bonus letters
  • Plan administrator for onboarding and off boarding employee benefits and RRSP
  • Conduct exit interviews and report accordingly
  • Offboard employees in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Oversee the vacation, time off and WORKshift tracking system 
  • Prepare and enter monthly vacation accrual 
  • Payroll reporting for grants and internal reporting
  • Provide guidance to management and staff regarding HR practices, policies, issue resolution and compliance with laws and regulations
  • System administrator for Ceridian, BambooHR, Equitable Life and Sun Life
  • Annual review of compensation and benefits 
  • Forecast and budgeting for salary on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Performance Management 
  • Training program including coordination, communication and reporting
  • Maintain HR Policy and Procedures and Employee Handbook 

Candidate Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Business Administration
  • CPHR designation would be an asset 
  • Minimum of 7-10 year of experience working in a Human Resource position
  • Superior multitasking and prioritization skills
  • High level of professionalism in dealing with confidential matters
  • Excellent relationship building skills with ability to work cooperatively with peers, other departments, and stakeholder groups
  • Exceptional written, oral communication, proofreading skills and numerical ability
  • Thorough understanding of Human Resources and Payroll principals
  • Experience implementing new payroll processes or payroll efficiencies is an asset
  • Experience with Health & Safety programs & Employee Relations policies is an asset
  • Experience with computer applications such as Ceridian, Bamboo, Halogen, General Ledger systems and Kudos is an asset
