Our client in Edmonton, is seeking a Labour Relations Advisor to join their team on a full-time permanent basis.  The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert consultation and advice on all matters related to Labour Relations. Job Responsibilities

  • Consult and provide advice on the administration and interpretation of policies, procedures and multiple collective agreements to ensure compliance with the negotiated terms and conditions, legislation and corporate policies 
  • Contribute to the establishment, implementation and evaluation of Human Resources and Labour Relations policies, procedures, systems, programs, and strategies.  
  • Participate in the collective bargaining process
  • Track and analyze labour relations activities and statistics, prepare reports for corporate consideration, and recommend best practices based on statistical information
  • Establish strategy and execute all aspects of grievance, arbitration and human rights proceedings and legal case management as it pertains to the Labour Relations function
  • Evaluate grievances to advise management and HR practitioners on the process, risks, and recommended course(s) of action
  • Work closely with legal counsel on preparing for arbitration which includes compiling, analyzing, and summarizing grievance documentation for legal review and presentation
  • Engage with the employee Associations to proactively manage, investigate, and address concerns regarding the administration and application of the collective agreements
  • Develop, deliver and revise labour/employee relations training and consulting to HR professionals, managers and other supervisory personnel regarding labour relations practices
Candidate Qualifications 
  • A degree in Business Commerce, Human Resources, or Labour Relations related discipline. A Labour Relations Professional Certification and a Chartered Professional in Human Resource designation is preferred
  • Minimum five years of progressive experience in a professional human resources role and a track record of success as a Labour Relations Specialist
  • Experience dealing with Union, Association and employer contracts
  • Experience working through bargaining and negotiation processes, grievances, arbitration preparation and presentation
  • Experience with collective agreement interpretation, employee relations issues, human rights, and performance management and labour practices
  • Ability to engage, manage difficult conversations and influence outcomes while maintaining strong trusting relationships
  • Ability to role-model collaborative leadership skills and work effectively in a dynamic environment while managing multiple client demands and priorities
  • Strong business acumen and solid understanding of employment standards and compensation
  • Sound problem solving, decision-making, and project management skills and experience
  • Ability to travel is required
  • Industrial or Utility industry experience in a large size organization as well as working in a multi-agreement or multi-union environment would be considered an asset
