Job Responsibilities 
  • Accountable for assisting in reserve calculations and with the preparation of the annual mine budget/business plan and life of mine (LOM) exercises
  • Ensuring adherence to mining legislation in all aspects of the design and planning process
  • Planning and designing work related to pit wall angles, pit optimization and final pit shells
  • Dumps design
  • Trucking and haulage calculations
  • Life of mine plan with access roads, ramps and attendant infrastructure
  • Development and implementation of mine planning models across various sites
  • Liaise with other engineers and geologist and operational personnel
  • Administering weekly, monthly and year end reports
  • Mine and dump sequence maps

Candidate Qualifications 
  • University degree in Mining Engineering
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in open pit mining
  • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia
  • Rocky Mountain Coal experience preferred
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Literacy skills including the ability to read manuals and regulatory requirements
  • Effective verbal and listening communication skills
  • Competency in Microsoft packages CAD and mine modeling software such as MineSight or Deswik;
  • Ability to see the whole picture and how the long-range plan directs the short-range plan
  • Visualize interaction between pits/access roads/dumps
  • Able to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines
  • Attention to the details and able to prioritize effectively
  • Ability to work with consultants
  • Ability to look ahead and foresee possible mining roadblocks and react to them appropriately
  • Good oral and written communications skills as well as good listening skills
  • Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity skills; and
  • Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective on existing solutions
  • Interprets needs, assesses requirements and identifies solutions to non-standard requests
  • Explains and presents difficult issues and works to build consensus
  • Makes decisions guided by policies in non-standard situations
